Medical Technology

So, for those of you who don't know, a medical technologist is an individual who works in a laboratory also known as a clinical laboratory scientist. We are the folks who use science, technology, and our knowledge in order to run tests on the samples doctors and nurses take from you. It is our job to provide the clinician with a result for the test that was ordered. Essentially without the medical technologist, there would be no doctors offices.

This career is often unheard of because the lab does not have direct patient contact. The doctors present the results to the patient and many patients may think that the doctors office performed the testing. Individuals who work in the lab are mysterious to those who do not understand what the career is. Currently, I am a Medical Technology student and I highly recommend this career path for anyone interested in the medical field. The job entails of little patient contact but the experience is great. If you are someone who does want patient contact, this program is a bachelors and a great stepping stone for medical school, pharmacy school, physician assistant programs and etc. It provides you with a vast knowledge in many sciences as well as clinical aspects. You also gain experience through clinical rotation which usually happens your senior year.

If you have any questions regarding this career please leave a comment and I would be glad to answer!
